Wyoming State Historical Society, Outstanding Preservation Project Award, honors Carbon County Museum

The committee selected the Wyoming Flag Project submitted by the Carbon County Museum as the recipient of the 2007 Outstanding Preservation Project award. This exciting and important project, implemented by Denise Patton, Director of Carbon County Museum, resulted in the conservation of one of the six original flags produced in 1917 of the design created by Verna Keays (Keyes).  The flag, in the collection of the Carbon County Museum, was treated by a textile conservator (Terri Schindel) and mounted in a new case (by Chris Shannon of Saratoga, WY) built according to current archival standards.  Furthermore, several educational programs were instituted in association with the project including a PowerPoint and DVD Production (by Erin Easter) on the project as well as educational activities and materials developed in association with elementary school teachers.

An invaluable piece of the history of Wyoming was saved for future generations.  Many people were given the opportunity to learn about the history of the flag and the art and science of the preservation of historic artifacts.

In recognition of this fine project, the Carbon County Museum has been awarded a plaque, a check and a numbered, signed Schweiring print.

A special thanks to all of you who worked so hard to make this project come to fruition!

Thank you for helping Carbon County Museum Preserve our Heritage!
